Yellow Arrows #14

NEED TO KNOW

Yellow Arrows #14: Thank you for such amazing kids! I love being able to see them every week and watch their amazing progression! It seriously is so fun!

END-OF-YEAR RECITAL: Our End-of-Year Recital will be held on Saturday, April 25 at 5:00pm at the church on 5900 Castle DriveWe are not a performing group, but we will take an opportunity to celebrate the things your kids have learned and do it in a fun way! Invite your family and friends for a fun evening.

Recital Practice List:

Trash*Fish*Pop:
We'll talk about harmony and then we'll sing it. The whole group will do all parts, then each kid will get to decide which "team" to be on and sing that part.

C Song:
I'll ask students questions, then we'll sing it.

Robin Hood: as written on page 1
Everybody! We'll do this three (or four depending on how I end up setting things up) times to allow each student to play it. (sing when you're not playing)

Challenge Song:
Each student will have the chance to show off by themselves on the keyboards. They can choose to play anything in the Green Turtles or Yellow Arrows songbook. Whatever they want to!

Pirate Ship Puppet Show
We'll do this Puppet Show with scarves.

If you can't be there, know that it will be okay! The purposes of Let's Play Music happen during classtime, and the recital is just a bonus!

CELEBRATION DAY:  Lesson #15 next week is Celebration Day! It's not a normal lesson, and is a whole bunch of fun! It IS a parent day, so come with your kids and celebrate everything you've done this semester! It will be an open-house style setup, and you can of course come during your normal class time, or any time next Wednesday between 2:00 and 2:50, and again between 4:10 and 5:00 when I have 2nd Year classes. If the best time for you is in the 3:00 hour, let me know and it'll probably work then too.

Bring your books and bags. Some of the activities will come out of there. Some of the games we do that day will stay in my classroom, but each student will get a bag with a few activities in it to take home. If your student can't be there, you can have a mini Celebration Day at your house! Let me know and I'll have an activity bag ready for you to pick up.

GOOD TO KNOW

CHORD TRANSITIONS: Your students can play the Primary Chords with BOTH HANDS with their eyes shut! The goal is to have their eyes on the music as much as possible while they play, with only quick glances at their fingers. Invite them to memorize their favorite song, then play it with their eyes closed and "see" the chords in their minds while they play!

MASTERING PLAYING BOTH HANDS TOGETHER: The red chord uses 1-3-5 in each hand. The yellow and blue chords switch which fingers to use and which way to shift. It's because our hands are mirrored. This is likened to patting your head and rubbing your tummy at the same time! Play hands separate until each hand is mastered, then put hands together one measure at a time. Slow and steady wins the race!

REVIEW: We had a fun review of what we've done in classes this year. My goodness your students have learned a lot!

FUN TO KNOW

We are so close! Keep it up!
